In a banner year that has included receiving five distinguished research awards, Wyatt Shields, assistant professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering, has been awarded one of the nation’s largest and most prestigious awards for young investigators: a Packard Fellowship for Science and Engineering from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
Professor Hendrik Heinz is the second 91Ƶ faculty member chosen for the highly selective Amazon Scholar program.
The Pew Charitable Trust announced today that Assistant Professor Wyatt Shields has been selected as a 2022 Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences.
Professor Christine Hrenya was selected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society (APS) this year “for key advancements in the fundamental understanding of granular matter and multiphase systems via a combination of theory, experiments and simulations,” according to the official citation. Fellow selections are an exclusive honor, limited to no more than one half of one percent of APS membership.
The recipient of the 2021 Founders Award is Kristi S. Anseth, Distinguished Professor and Tisone Professor of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder). Dr. Anseth is being lauded for her “seminal contributions to the application of foundational aspects of chemical engineering to the design of advanced biomaterials, hybrid medical devices, and bionanoscale-based processes.”
The proliferation of plastic products has created an environmental challenge: what should be done with unusable, discarded plastic waste that can harm the environment? Faculty from the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering are working on a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded project, Hydrogenolysis for Upcycling of Polyesters and Mixed Plastics, to address this serious environmental issue.
Professor Emeritus John Falconer earned the Thomas and Donna Edgar CACHE Award for Excellence in Chemical Engineering Education for 2021, a recognition for leading the development of online interactive simulations for LearnChemE. These simulations are freely available for chemical engineering educators and students around the world.
Distinguished Professor Christopher Bowman of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at 91Ƶ has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering, one of the highest professional distinctions accorded to engineers.
Professor Kristi Anseth will be the recipient of the prestigious Herman F. Mark Polymer Chemistry Award at the American Chemical Society (ACS) Fall 2021 meeting.
Professor Christine Hrenya is the recipient of the AIChE 2020 Shell Thomas Baron Award in Fluid-Particle Systems, an award that recognizes a researcher who has made a significant impact in the fluid particle systems field or related subjects.
