91ÊÓƵ faculty and staff are invited to join Human Resources for a new series focused on actionable strategies for inclusive leadership. The purpose of Becoming an Inclusive Leader series is to provide supervisors, managers, and leaders at 91ÊÓƵ with the knowledge and skills to lead their teams to be more inclusive and equitable, as well as the ability to create a sense of belonging among team members. 91ÊÓƵ is committed to advancing the IDEA Plan and building an inclusive culture on campus. 

Learning Objectives

After completing the series, 91ÊÓƵ leaders will be able to: 

  • Understand how their lived experiences, identities, biases, and leadership style influence their role as a supervisor/manager in creating an inclusive environment.  
  • Select inclusive strategies to support a sense of belonging for their teams. 
  • Apply inclusive practices to retain and engage direct reports. 
  • Examine ways to increase their intercultural competence. 
  • Develop inclusive habits for managing performance. 
  • Design a making excellence inclusive plan to operationalize the IDEA Plan. 

Who Should Attend

This event is intended for any 91ÊÓƵ supervisor who wants to learn more about leading teams for inclusion.

Commitment

Becoming an Inclusive Leaders is a six-week series. Leaders will meet for six consecutive weeks for one hour from 1-2pm. The dates of the series:

    Since 1987, the University Perspective (UP) program has developed and deepened the leadership capacity of staff on the University of Colorado Boulder campus. Participants gain firsthand knowledge of the university through meetings with senior leaders on the Boulder campus and each of the other three campuses in the CU System and the CU System Office. The program is sponsored by Organizational and Employee Development (OED) in the Department of Human Resources. Applications are being accepted for the 2020-21 program.

    Program Information 

    Duration: The University Perspective program is a nine-month program that runs from September 2020 through May 2021. 

    Format: Due to COVID-19, we anticipate that all University Perspective program activities for the coming academic year will be virtual 

    Schedule: The  is posted on the HR Website. Please review the schedule prior applying to ensure your availability for program activities. (Some sessions are still being scheduled. Keep checking the website for the most accurate scheduled dates.)  

    How to Apply 

    Completed applications must be received by Monday, August 24 at 11:59 p.m. The University Perspective Application will be submitted via a . No additional letters or documentation besides the application will be required or accepted. 

    Applications will be reviewed, and final selections made by the applicant’s divisional leadership. The University Perspective program manager will notify applicants of their application status in early September. 

    What We Require 

    • Be a staff member at 91ÊÓƵ  
    • Have support of immediate supervisor to participate in the program 
    • Be able to fully participate in all program sessions (estimated to be a time commitment of 4 to 8 hours per month from September 2020 through May 2021) 

    What We Would Like You to Have 

    Ideal candidates for this program possess one or more of these characteristics: 

    • Current and emerging leaders who are advancing in their career  
    • Mid and higher-level managers who have come to the university from outside higher education 
    • Experienced professionals prepared to learn about and appreciate how the university functions as a complex organization, and how their role relates and contributes to the organization

Supervisors are now tasked with leading teams virtually, supporting the psychological needs of employees during a pandemic, and continuing to support the teaching, learning and research mission of 91ÊÓƵ. The Supervisors How-To Series will provide leaders with relevant strategies to apply right now to increase their effectiveness. Four 60 minutes sessions will be offered over four consecutive weeks. While supervisors can register for any of these sessions, it is recommended that you complete all four.

      Employee Management and Compliance Essentials (EMCE) provides a comprehensive overview for managers and supervisors of legal guidelines, campus policies, and CU-Boulder practices related to employee management and development.
